OPPO Year end quote
OPPO India is focused towards expanding its efforts in the Indian market and sees itself as a long-term player in one of the fastest growing mobile handset markets in the world. The market has grown extensively this year, with some huge disruptions coming in the form of innovations in the space of voice calling, phone cameras and fast charging. As a brand we are in the process of redefining ourselves from being the Selfie Expert to now becoming a technology innovator in the smartphone space. This has been seen through unique features like the AI-powered beauty camera, 3D portrait lighting and intelligent recognition scenarios that were featured in some of our innovative products such as the Find X, F9 Pro and R17 Pro. With handsets ranging from Rs.10,000 to Rs.60,000, we have received an overwhelming response from consumers in the Indian market – a testament of this was the F9 Pro which sold 6 times more than the F7 that was launched last year. According to the IDC Report 2017, OPPO is ranked at number 4 in terms of the global market share, with over 200 million consumers using OPPO smartphones globally, and building upon this we continue to cater to the demands of our consumers across the globe and in India as well by bringing in innovative new technologies like we’ve done in the past with the motorized camera, VOOC and SuperVOOC amongst many others.
Working towards our dedication in giving our consumers the best of both worlds – technology and design, we will soon be opening a design centre in London to innovate new and exciting design features. Furthermore, building upon our expertise in innovation, R&D has become an important area of focus for us, and we had invested over RMB 4 billion globally in the space this year. As a brand that is driven towards developing new and innovative technologies, globally we have 32,000 applied technology patents to our name and are in the process of filing more, to help our customers experience the very best of technology. Going forward, we will further improve our efforts in the space and are looking at investing another RMB 10 billion towards R&D in 2019. With our focus on India, we will also be announcing our first R&D centre in the country – in Hyderabad, soon.
With the growing trend of 5G in the telecom industry, several smartphone manufacturers will be launching 5G enabled smartphones in the coming year and OPPO aims to be one of the first to do so in the Indian market. We are looking at fully integrating 5G with applications and user insights to provide users with revolutionary, necessary, convenient and seamless smartphone experiences. We also expect to see the industry take massive strides in the implementation of AI into several smartphone technologies next year, and OPPO will be seen leading in that space as well. We will continue working towards building newer applications of AI in several technologies including photography, facial recognition and fingerprint identification amongst others, and you will see these exciting innovations being implemented in our future product line-up.
Through such efforts, in 2019 we will continue to focus on growth and customer delight by introducing innovative new products backed by ground breaking new technologies and take positive steps forward in solidifying our presence across the country.
