SAP appoints Paul Marriott as President for Asia Pacific Japan

SAP SE announced the appointment of Paul Marriott as President for Asia Pacific Japan (APJ). Building on SAP’s success and presence over the past 32 years in the APJ region, Marriott will be responsible for leading and driving SAP’s growth spanning Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, the Indian subcontinent and South East Asia, continuing the region’s role as a global growth engine for the company. He will report to Scott Russell, SAP Executive Board member, Customer Success.

“SAP has a heritage of over 30 years in Asia, helping over 46,000 enterprises big and small to be successful,” Russell said. “I am confident that Paul’s tenure with customers in APJ, as well as his relentless focus on delivering customer value and outcomes, will help enterprises accelerate their next phase of digitization.”

A technology veteran and established business leader with more than 25 years of experience in Asian economies, Marriott was most recently the region’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) where he was instrumental in developing the workforce of tomorrow and accelerating cloud growth and customer success.

“The economic growth in Asia Pacific did not come without consequences. The region is also the largest carbon dioxide polluter in the world, with an estimated 17 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emitted annually. We aim to onboard the top organizations through 2021 to our Climate 21 initiative in APJ – ‘21 in 21’, to help reduce their carbon footprint,” said Paul Marriott, President, SAP Asia Pacific Japan.

SAP’s Climate 21 initiative will help customers manage their green line by providing insights for them to assemble, assess and act on their carbon emissions footprint along the supply and value chain.

“We will continue to embrace cultural, gender and generational diversity. SAP will provide an environment for female leaders to succeed, nurture young talent, and promote a culture of lifelong learning to build the workforce of tomorrow in Asia now.”

Over the past year, businesses across all industries pivoted digitally to circumvent COVID-19 disruptions. This is made possible with speed and at scale with cloud technology. SAP’s extensive portfolio includes Industry Cloud, Business Technology Platform, and S/4HANA Enterprise Resource Planning to help organizations manage their top line and bottom line.

In January 2021, RISE with SAP was announced to offer customers at all stages of digital transformation, a completely new way to redesign processes for better business outcomes.

“Agile organizations that are able to adapt their business processes will thrive. Through RISE with SAP, customers will be able to transform into Intelligent Enterprises in the cloud and take the lead in their industry,” Marriott continued.

In APJ, cloud revenue increased 18% (IFRS) and 21% (non-IFRS at constant currencies) with Japan, South Korea and Singapore being highlights. Cloud and software revenue was flat (IFRS) and up 2% (non-IFRS at constant currencies). Japan, Australia and India had a robust performance in software licenses revenue.

SAP customers in APJ include Asian Paints, Bank Central Asia, BHP, Fonterra, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Hindustan Zinc, Hyundai-Kia Motor, SK Hynix, Sony, The Australian Federal Government, National Australia Bank, NTT, Nissha Printing, Nikkei, Olam, Orica, Pantos Logistics, Standard Chartered Bank, Yodobashi Camera, and Zespri International.

Marriott adds, “Asia’s next decade of growth will be driven by sustainable cloud growth, anchored by our purpose, people and partnerships, we aim to bring development, growth and prosperity to Asia Pacific.”
