Snapdeal joins hands with Puducherry Government to promote local handicrafts under the brand name ‘Artisanat’
New Delhi, India, April 17, 2015: Snapdeal, India’s largest online marketplace, has signed a MOU with The Puducherry State Coop Handloom and Handicrafts Federation, Govt. of Puducherry to offer technical and operational support to local artisans to help them market their products to a larger consumer base via Snapdeal. Traditional handicrafts hold a significant position in Puducherry culture. Some such handicrafts include Leather craft, Textile Pottery, Handmade paper, Wood Carving, Clay & Terracotta, Jewelry, Jute Craft, Metalwork, Candles and Incense sticks. The diverse and rich crafts of Puducherry add elegance and splendor to lifestyles of it local and international consumers. These products will be available on Snapdeal from May 2015.
As part of this partnership, Snapdeal will equip the artisans with online cataloguing and refine offerings of the products through its data analytics tools. This initiative will enable customers to choose from a wide range of signature handicrafts from Puducherry. Through this MoU, Snapdeal will address some challenges such as lack of promotion and market accessibility that the handicraft industry is currently facing. Snapdeal will create an efficient and cost-effective platform on which buyers-sellers can come together to create an exchange directly without the intermediaries.
