The telecom industry witnessed a tremendous growth in 2014. Specifically talking about India, the market saw a transition in the user community shifting from feature phones to low cost smartphones.
We expect that this transition will continue and there will be a significant growth in the low cost smartphone segment. In addition, the High End device offering from Indian and Low cost international brands is expected to grow multifold. The overall volumes on smartphones in 2013-14 were at 44 Million Devices and the estimates are pegged over 80-85 Million devices in 2014-15. This will create a large opportunity for us in the high-end device segment.
Smartphones are on the rise. Everyone aspires to have a smartphone irrespective of the affordability segment they belong to; India is filled with information hungry users waiting to shift from feature phones to smartphones to leverage the power of the internet. In addition, the big screen smartphones, Phablets, Selfie Phones (with high resolution face camera), faster processors and better memory, etc are gaining popularity.
