1. What according to you are some of the top security breaches in the last quarter? 

Cyberattacks have become more widespread worldwide. Attacks are growing rapidly in both sophistication and are now more profitable than ever for cybercriminals. Not only has the Everywhere Workplace broadened the cyber risk and threat landscape—particularly in terms of data privacy and security—but Agile software developers, many of whom lack a DevSecOps process, are releasing untested or poorly tested software that hackers can exploit as zero-day exploits.

The most common techniques used by cybercriminals have remained consistent over recent years, with phishing and ransomware continuing to hold two of the top three spots. In the recent Ransomware Index Report Q1 2022, we identified a 7.6 percent increase in the number of vulnerabilities tied to ransomware in Q1 2022, with the Conti ransomware group exploiting most of those vulnerabilities. The report uncovered 22 new vulnerabilities tied to ransomware, bringing the total to 310. It connected Conti, a prolific ransomware group that pledged support for the Russian government following the invasion of Ukraine, to 19 of those new vulnerabilities. The report also revealed a 7.5 percent increase in APT groups associated with ransomware, a 6.8 percent increase in actively exploited and trending vulnerabilities, and a 2.5 percent increase in ransomware families.

3. How do you see cybersecurity evolving in the next one year? 

With the Digital Revolution sweeping the globe, all organizations, large and small—and even governments—are relying on computerized systems to manage their day-to-day operations. Cybersecurity has become a top priority in the fight to protect data from online attacks and unauthorized access. As news of data breaches, ransomware, and hacks become the norm, continuous technological change suggests a parallel shift in cybersecurity trends. The following reasons explain why and how cybersecurity will evolve over the next year:

• Phishing attacks will continue to affect businesses. Phishing should have been eliminated a long time ago, but instead, the threat is as prominent as ever. According to a recent Ivanti survey, 74 percent of respondents said their organizations had been the victim of a phishing attack in the previous year. SMS phishing is the most recent variant to gain popularity. It operates similarly to an email phishing scam, but rather sends misleading or malicious links via text messages. We can expect more sophisticated phishing scams in 2023.
• Ransomware is a global issue that is not going away. Following the rapid adoption of remote work, remote access services became easy targets, with phishing being a common attack vector. Ransomware has evolved further, with attackers increasingly utilizing known vulnerabilities that allow for remote code execution and privilege escalation. In 2023, ransomware attackers will mature their tactics, expand their attack arsenals, and increase their attacks on unpatched vulnerabilities across enterprise attack surfaces.
• As business environments become more complex, automating cyber hygiene will become increasingly important. In the end, most attacks are the result of poor cyber hygiene. Even sophisticated attacks, such as supply chain or ransomware attacks, frequently begin with simple tactics such as social engineering, phishing, or exploiting vulnerabilities in unpatched software to infiltrate environments and deploy malware. It will become increasingly necessary to find solutions to automate cyber hygiene, especially as technologies evolve.

5. Share some information about the companies you have acquired in the last two years?

Ivanti acquired four companies with an Indian presence in 2021, making our presence strong here. These were MobileIron, Cherwell Software, Pulse Secure, and RiskSense. Bringing MobileIron and Pulse Secure into the Ivanti group enabled organizations to securely access networks and manage devices in the Everywhere Enterprise—in which employees and IT infrastructures are everywhere—and to deliver better user experiences and outcomes. The R&D coming from Ivanti’s India office has been instrumental in the continued growth of the company and continues to serve Ivanti’s global customers with security, IT Service Management (ITSM), and Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solutions. These companies’ offerings were synergistic to the overall product and solutions that Ivanti had to offer.

6. You have mentioned hiring plans – what are the major roles that you are looking at filling?

We consider India our main development hub and innovation center. In 2020, the company had fewer than 100 employees in India, but after acquisitions, that number increased to well over 700. We are needing to fill technical roles to enhance our industry-leading AI platform, and support roles in legal, finance, and HR. Ivanti has nearly 3,200 global employees, and we empower our employees with the ability to work from anywhere.
