Microsoft releases a five-point blueprint for the public governance of AI in India
Microsoft releases a five-point blueprint for the public governance of AI in India.
Key Recommendations:
- Implement and build upon new government-led AI safety frameworks: Building upon existing frameworks, Microsoft recommends committing to and regulating AI’s safe development and deploymen through collaboration between governments and private entities, including international cooperation.
- Require safety brakes for AI systems that control critical infrastructure: To ensure human oversight and resilience in high-risk scenarios, Microsoft proposes the incorporation of safety brakes in AI systems controlling critical infrastructure.
- Develop legal and regulatory frameworks for AI: A comprehensive regulatory framework is vital. Existing laws should be applied at the application layer, new regulations and licensing should be introduced for advanced AI models, and infrastructure operators should be held accountable.
- Promote transparency and ensure academic and nonprofit access: Transparency is paramount. Microsoft pledges to provide annual AI transparency reports and advocates for expanded access to AI resources for academic research and the general public.
- Pursue public-private partnerships to use AI to address societal challenges: Addressing AI’s societal challenges effectively necessitates collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors.
