The increasing prominence of desi-tech to support the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative

Telebu-Founder-&-CEO-Satya-YerramsettiThe year 2020 was full of massive ups and downs. Every individual and industry witnessed some pivotal events ranging from the outburst of the pandemic to the banning of 59 Chinese apps and the launch of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign. The honorable PM even initiated the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat app innovation challenge’ and invited the Indian startup and tech community to participate in this exciting challenge with their unique concepts and tech-savvy ideas.

The Government launched Aatmanirbhar Bharat Campaign to encourage and support Indian application developers and tech innovators. It has, of course, given the local app developers the requisite push to step up and create their products and attempt to motivate them to become self-reliant rather than acquiring help from foreign players.

Increased growth of desi-tech space

The pandemic indeed disrupted our lives and paved the way for introducing and adopting various innovations across businesses and industries. The Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign’s announcement was undoubtedly timely due to the economic turmoil caused by the virus and the restrictions of movement of goods and people that led to businesses suffering losses. It has given momentum to the Indian techie talent to step up their game, utilize their skill set and create game-changing solutions, software, and apps.

COVID-19 has fast-tracked the digitizing and digitalizing of businesses. The digital medium and the inculcation of cutting-edge solutions are at the forefront of business operations to ensure their survival and revival in the market. Be it any business in any sector; it now relies heavily on technology to function. From creating e-commerce platforms to company apps, extending instant customer service, and ensuring swift grievance resolution via AI-enabled bots, every element and technology is getting produced in our homeland.

Initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and ‘Vocal for Local’ also encourage Indian users to look for local alternatives for some widely used apps. This shift in consumer preferences has also pushed the desi-tech space. It has been growing at an unprecedented pace.

Local tech brands supporting Aatmanirbhar Bharat

Homegrown tech brands support and favour these campaigns solely because they enforce local production and have boosted their industry. Due to the proliferation of the local tech industry, we have been able to generate employment and drive the growth of businesses. The Desi tech market has also played a pivotal role in reducing poverty levels and upscaling our lifestyles. India possesses the third-largest startup ecosystem and has flourished significantly over the years. The aspiring entrepreneurs and startup ventures now look up to domestic tech brands and local app developers for technical assistance rather than seeking help from foreign technological solutions providers.

Growth of Homegrown Apps

India is one of the largest app markets and the third-largest tech startup hubs in the world. Additionally, the local versions rule the Indian app market and have been growing significantly. As reported by Apps Flyer, one of the global leaders in mobile attribution and marketing analytics, India’s app market constituted 38.5% of the global mobile application market in 2020 and has surpassed countries like China and the US.

There were approximately 7.3 billion app installations. It further states that mobile usage rose significantly, especially amongst the tier 2, 3, and 4 cities last year. They increasingly preferred finance, gaming, and entertainment apps. This trend continues to grow and further pushes the demand for regional content, which can be sufficed only by the homegrown apps due to their geographical proximity and capacity to extend local flavour to curate and provide such localized, customized, relevant content to the consumers.

Even locally-bred video apps are making their way into the market and supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. Mitron TV, an indigenous short video sharing app, has brought forward the Atmanirbhar Apps which gives users the chance to find all the homegrown apps in one place. Available for download on the Google Play Store, the app has sorted out the various apps in different categories that have been made in India.

Summing Up

The desi-tech industry has been depicting an upward growth trajectory since the nation possesses both the digital talent pool & a vast consumer base. The homegrown apps ensure to utilize the in-house and local technical assistance optimally. They are leaving no stones unturned to bolster the growth of the businesses and cater to the changing needs of the consumers, be it in metro cities or remote areas.

The Desi-tech space has been gaining prominence and will continue to uplift the startup ecosystem and boost the growth of the existing businesses in the coming times. It will also set the best example of the successful implementation of Made in India, Vocal for local, and Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaigns.
